Contemporary, dignified healthcare for women of the DRC

Established in 2017 by Dr. Ravonna Martin, the Ida Lee Project (ILP) emerged after working with organizations addressing pervasive disparities in women's healthcare across the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Dr. Martin's dedication to her work for women’s healthcare stems from a close relationship with her late aunt, Ida Lee, a courageous fighter of ovarian cancer.

This project is a tribute to Ida Lee's enduring legacy, manifested through the compassionate healthcare women receive in her name. Through the ILP, Dr. Martin and her team seek to address the critical gaps in healthcare access and education, and elevate the standard of care for women across the DRC, embodying Ida Lee's spirit of compassion and resilience.

The Ida Lee Project’s mission:

  • Provide women of the DRC with necessary medical care to alleviate suffering.

  • Empower women with educational tools and resources for their health and well-being.

  • Advance contemporary and dignified medical care led by Congolese practitioners.

What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.
